Boomer's Scout Book (Posted January 16th, 2025)

Program: Sluggers Fury (MA)
Date: Saturday, January 11th, 2025 1-4PM
Location: Sluggers Academy, Medfield, MA
College Coaches Present: 8

Total Players: 28

For the fifth straight year, Firecracker Sports has kicked off its event schedule in Medfield, MA for a scout day with Sluggers Fury. This year, 30 athletes from the classes of 2025 to 2029 joined us and eight college coaches to showcase their abilities and grow as a player. They had the opportunity to interact with the coaches and staff, and hopefully everyone gained some new knowledge to apply to their training and game! Huge thank you to the coaches for coming out to help the players, and the Sluggers Fury staff for once again using their facility.

Every player performed well, but we wanted to highlight a few performances that stood out, both from the position players and pitchers. One thing we want to stress is that these numbers and performances were at the beginning of January. If you, as a player, are disappointed in your results, please do not be. There is still plenty of time before the season starts to get to where you want to be. With that being said the following are the best performances from this past Saturday.

Top Position Players

  1. Grahm Hutton, 2026 Outfielder (Longmeadow, MA)
    1. Grahm is a good athlete with a lot of potential. In the outfield, he has a decent arm, but gets the ball out of his glove quickly. He plays the field with a sense of urgency and has good mechanics coming through the ball into the throw.
    2. At the plate, Graham’s swing needs some fine tuning. He gets a little long and pulls off the ball sometimes, spraying the ball to right field. However, when he makes solid contact, the ball jumps off the bat. He topped the exit velocity leaderboard for this event. Finding more directness and consistency in the swing will make him a really good follow over the next year.
  2. Payton Young, 2026 First Baseman (Bellingham, MA)
    1. A big bodied first baseman, Payton moves very quickly for his size. His 1.81 second 10 yard split during the 60 yard dash places him tied for fifth at the event. This quickness shows in the field as he is quick to the ball. He receives the ball well from the infielders.
    2. Payton had the most consistent swing and most consistent barrels during BP. HIs swing is short, but gets good depth behind the ball. He effortlessly and consistently produces high exit velocities. Payton would be a really good follow over the next year as he could turn into a really good hitter.
  3. Max Bryan, 2025 First Baseman (Walpole, MA)
    1. Another good first baseman at the event, Max is a 2025 grad, and performed well at the scout day. Not the most athletic player at the event, but baseball wise, he was one of the soundest. In the field, he had good footwork approaching the ball and around the bag. Arm strength is decent but still has time to improve in that area. All his throws were on target to second base with clean mechanics and footwork.
    2. Max’s soundness and composure carries over to his swing as well. He consistently made solid contact to both sides of the field. He does not try to do too much with the ball, he simply takes it where it is pitched. He produced consistent exit veloes to all parts of the field and consistently hit the ball on a line.

Top Pitchers

  1. Chris Pirerra, 2026 RHP (Canton, MA)
    1. Chris is a tall righty with good size and better pitching ability. His fastball plays just under 80 mph at the beginning of January. With a few more months of training before the season starts, and during the season, expect him to go past 85, possibly pushing up to 88 like last season. As a 2026 grad, this is promising, as with additional size and another year of training, he has the potential to keep gaining velo. Command on both sides of the plate was good, but what stood out was his offspeed pitches. The slider and curveball both had good movement and he was able to locate both. The changeup was his best pitch, however, with 20 inches of vertical break, 7 inches of arm side run, and 10 mph slower than his fastball, the changeup is the pitch that Chirs should be throwing more to get outs.
  2. Graham Hutton, 2026 LHP (Longmeadow, MA)
    1. Once again we find Grahm Hutton on this list. Grahm is a LHP that moves down the mound very well with a firm front side and good extension. The fastball is good, sitting just under 80 mph with an average spin rate. Both have room to improve. He features a changeup, slider, and curveball that all play well off the fastball. No one pitch really stood out, but none were bad pitches, he was very consistent across the board.
  3. Payton Young, 2026 RHP (Bellingham, MA)
    1. Just as with Grahm Hutton, Payton Young was also one of the best pitchers at the scout day. As good of a hitter Payton in, we could easily see him end up pitching at the next level as well. He has a long arm action, releasing the ball at a near ¾ slot. His finish to the motion is inconsistent at times, sometimes falling off the mound, sometimes recoiling backward. His best offspeed was by far his curveball. It has sharp break and is definitely a put away pitch. The slider needs some more work, as the movement was not entirely there, some just spun and went straight. He also features a splitter, which was solid, but the curveball was his best pitch.

Top Players To Look Out For

  1. JT Norton, 2026 Shortstop/Outfielder (Canton, MA)
    1. JT produced really good metrics at the event, especially at the plate. One of the most consistent swings, every piece of contact was a low liner. His swing was quick and short to the ball, but was very segmented. More fluidity and less rigidness would propel his number even higher. JT needs to put on more size, however. His athleticism is average, but more size and strength would only improve that. Overall, JT could be a really good player with some minor tweaks and additional strength. A very interesting follow heading into the summer.
  2. Adam Farne, 2028 Outfielder (Medfield, MA)
    1. Easily the best young prospect at the scout day. Adam is an extremely athletic outfielder with great speed, being at the top of the leaderboard for the 10, 30, and 60 yard dashes. In the field, he also has a good arm, throwing 71 mph. He is still young, a 2028 grad, so that has time to improve. The athleticism also shows at the plate with good bat speed and a level swing. If he can stay consistent with the swing and keep adding strength, he could be a top college prospect.
  3. Stevie Cronin, 2029 Pitcher/Third Baseman (Norwood, MA)
    1. Stevie was the youngest player at the scout day. Running the 60 and in the field, he is not the most athletic player. He does not have the best arm strength, either. However, he does have a solid bat, which is going to propel his performance and college recruitment. His swing is good, but definitely needs some mechanical tweaks and refinement to be smoother and more consistent. He already has good size for his age, so making some adjustments can really help him make a big jump. Stevie is a really young player with plenty of time to fill out and grow into his game, but the potential could be there if he puts in the work.
