Boomer's Scout Book (Posted January 31st, 2025)

Program: Nokona Giants (MA)
Date: Sunday, January 26th, 2025 9AM-12PM
Location: Brockton, MA
College Coaches Present: 8

Total Players: 36

This past weekend, Firecracker Sports traveled to Brockton, MA to host a scout day with the Nokona Giants. Lots of talent was on display, as 40 athletes from the classes of 2025 to 2029 joined us and nine college coaches to showcase their abilities and grow as a player. Players worked closely with the college coaches to gain some new knowledge to apply to their game, but also the recruiting process. Huge thank you to the coaches for coming out to help the players, and the Nokona Giants coaches and staff for allowing us to use their newly upgraded facility. Some adjustments had to be made due to the size constraints of the facility, but they were more than accommodating and willing to do whatever so the players could have a great experience.

These lists were very hard to make as numerous players stood out from the hitting and pitching sides of the game. Many deserve to be on these lists, so do not be discouraged if you do not see your name. We also want to stress that it is still the middle of the offseason. If you, as a player, are disappointed in your results, please do not be. There is still plenty of time before the season starts to get to where you want to be, and make improvements to maybe find yourself on this list next time. With that being said the following are the best performances from this past Saturday.

Top Position Players

  1. Corey Leonard, 2027 Outfielder (East Bridgewater, MA)
    • Corey was one of the most athletic players at the event. He moved very well in the outfield, which when paired with his good arm, makes him a good defensive player. Offensively, sets up nice, but you can tell he wants to pull the ball, as he opens up his front side during his swing. Still hit the ball consistently hard, but working on staying closed will also help him greatly. He was in the top performers for both average exit velocity and max exit velocity. Also showed great effort throughout the day.
  2. Camden Swinton, 2025 Third Baseman (Raynham, MA)
    • Camden is an offense first infielder with great bat speed and raw power. There is still room to add strength with more fluidity and consistency in his swing. His swing got robotic at times, so working on being smooth and adjustable should unlock that extra power. In the field, he moved decently, but had stiff hands. Has the arm to play third, but may profile as a first baseman type in the future. All around strong player with good size whose bat will play at the next level.
  3. Antonio Cirino, 2025 Catcher (Raynham, MA)
    • The best all around catcher at the event, Antonio is a solid defensive catcher with a great bat. Behind the plate, he is a good receiver with a good arm, throwing 70 mph down to second. He could be a little quicker with a pop time of 2.22, but his athleticism should help him achieve that. He was in the top 10 for the event in 30 yard dash times, as well, with a time of 4.06 seconds. At the plate, Antonio had exit velocities nearing 90 mph, consistently hitting the ball on a line. Good load with a strong swing and high finish. Very fast twitch and athletic enough to play at the next level.

Top Pitchers

  1. Jameson Gray, 2027 LHP (North Easton, MA)
    • Jameson was the best prospect at the event, between hitters and pitchers. He turned the most heads on the mound with an 84 mph fastball, getting up to 86. He throws it up in the zone, and locates it well. A high spin rate over 2000 also helps the ball carry more and have even more life. His only secondary pitch is a slider, which he throws at 77 mph with sharp, late break. He has good size already, but there is still room to grow. Has a more mature presence on the mound than other young pitchers.
  2. Nicholas Olszewski, 2026 RHP (Avon, MA)
    • Nicholas had one of the best pitch mixes at the event. His fastball sits right around 80 mph with a spin rate just over 2000. What makes him stand out his secondary pitches, each unique in profile. The curveball is the weakest of the three. It does not move much, but it is sharp with more vertical than horizontal break. The slider is the opposite with lots of horizontal break and good depth. His best pitch is the changeup, however. It has about a 10 mph drop off from the fastball and 16 inches of arm side run and 10 inches of drop. If Nicholas can improve his command of all pitches, and refine the breaking pitches more, he will be very good this summer.
  3. Alex Saade, 2026 RHP (Easton, MA)
    • A tall, lanky pitcher, Alex has an electric arm, touching 80 mph off the mound, but also in the infield. With some mechanical tweaks during the delivery, he should be able add more velocity. He also has plenty of room to grow and add muscle, which will only help his already good velocity. He has a high spin rate fastball and big curveball, which profiles more as a slider with nearly 20 inches of horizontal break. Command is a weak point for Alex, but fixing mechanics should help with that as well. Alex was one of the more intriguing pitchers we saw with a lot of potential that needs to be unlocked.

Top Players To Look Out For

  1. Maceo Boates, 2027 Third Baseman (East Bridgewater, MA)
    • Maceo may have been the best athlete at the event. He ran a 3.85 30 yard dash and threw 72 mph in the infield. He has a whippy arm, but needs to improve his footwork and direction with his throw. His bat needs to come around a little bit more, but the potential is there. Better balance and a more aggressive swing could help him achieve that. Off the mound he is 74-75 with good spin rate and decent offspeed.
  2. Tarren Lawless, 2028 3B (Easton, MA)
    • Another great athlete, Tarren was one of the best young players at the event. He ran a 4.1 30 yard dash, and threw 72 mph across the infield. Tarren may have been the most dynamic player, and as he is younger, could grow into a really good ballplayer. His swing is smooth and short to the ball. With added size and more time, Tarren will be a very good player to follow over the next few years.
  3. Quinten Monteiro, 2028 Shortstop (Brockton, MA)
    • Quinten is a very raw player whose athleticism carries his baseball ability. He ran a 3.97 30 yard dash and had a very good arm from the outfield at 78 mph, but only 70 from the infield. He is listed as a shortstop, but will probably end up in the outfield. His bat is a little weak, but he is very young and has time to add more size to improve his metrics. As the offseason continues, he should be in better shape mechanics wise. Off the mound he is better, sitting just under 80 mph on his fastball, and decent offspeed. Quinten is a jack of all trades with the raw tools and potential to be a great prospect.

To wrap up, we want to again thank the coaches from Rhode Island College, Bridgewater State University, Nichols College, Dean College, Johnson & Wales University, Massasoit Community College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Assumption College for helping us and the players.
