The wait is finally over! This past weekend, the crack of the bat and the pop of the mitt returned to fields across the region as the Northeast Baseball League officially ignited its 2026 spring campaign. On March 28th and 29th, we saw everything that makes Firecracker Sports events the premier destination for youth baseball: high-octane offenses, absolute gems on the mound, and the kind of “never-say-die” attitude that defines our community.

From the 9U youngsters finding their stride to the 14U powerhouses kicking off the CT Spring Season, the energy was electric. We aren’t just playing games; we’re building memories and elite-level experience. If this past weekend was any indication of what’s to come, the rest of the season is going to be an absolute firework show!

THE CT SPRING SEASON KICKOFF: 13U & 14U BRING THE HEAT

The big story of the weekend was the official launch of the CT Spring Season for our 13U and 14U divisions. These age groups represent a major transition in a young ballplayer’s journey, moving toward the big diamond and facing stiffer competition. We saw teams step up to the plate with intensity, proving that the winter workouts in the cages have officially paid off.

The Northeast Premier Baseball League structure is designed to test these athletes, and they responded in kind. Whether it was lockdown defense in the middle infield or pitchers finding the edge of the black with 0-2 counts, the level of play was top-tier.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: THE STANDOUTS

While baseball is a team game, individual brilliance often sets the tone. This weekend, a few names rose above the rest, putting up “video game numbers” and leading their squads to victory.

Paulie Okolowitcz (Bandits Baseball Club 11U)

Talk about a stat line that jumps off the page! Paulie was an absolute menace at the dish all weekend. Going 4-for-6 with two doubles and two home runs, he drove in 5 RBIs and crossed the plate 4 times himself. When Paulie is in the box, pitchers are officially on notice. His ability to find the gap and clear the fence provided the spark the Bandits needed to dominate their matchups.

Alex Schneider (Jr. WooSox 14U)

If you were looking for a masterclass in pitching, you found it with Alex Schneider. Dominating the 14U division is no small feat, but Alex made it look easy. He tossed 5 innings of 1-hit ball, racking up a staggering 11 strikeouts. His command of the zone and ability to miss bats kept the opposition guessing all afternoon. It was a “lights out” performance that secured a massive win for the Jr. WooSox.

Rocco Spera (CT Crush 11U)

Rocco was the definition of efficiency this weekend. He went a perfect 3-for-3 across a doubleheader, but it wasn’t just about getting on base: it was about the damage he did. Rocco blasted a 3-run home run and finished the weekend with 5 total RBIs. When the game was on the line, Rocco delivered, proving why the CT Crush is a force to be reckoned with this spring.

Landen Ziegler (CT ShellShockers 13U)

Landen did it all. Offensively, he was a spark plug, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and scoring 3 runs. But his impact didn’t stop at the plate. Landen provided lockdown defense at shortstop, vacuuming up everything hit his way and showing off a cannon for an arm. His two-way play is exactly the kind of “grit and talent” mix we love to see at Firecracker Sports.

12U DIVISION: DOMINANCE AND DRAMA

The 12U division provided some of the most lopsided victories and the tightest finishes of the weekend.

  • AF Bolts Blue: Talk about a statement. The Bolts didn’t just win; they dictated terms. With a 13-0 shutout followed by a 10-1 victory, their pitching staff and defense allowed only one run over two games. That is the definition of clinical baseball.
  • Jr. WooSox Red: On the flip side, the Jr. WooSox Red showed us what “clutch” looks like. They pulled off two white-knuckle victories, winning 5-4 and 8-7. These are the types of games that build character and team chemistry. They found a way to win when the pressure was highest.
  • Brigade Baseball White: This squad was all about the bats. They spent the weekend piling on runs and keeping the pressure on their opponents from the first pitch to the last.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK WINNER: 12U SPOTLIGHT

Ben Bernardo from AF Bolts Blue stepped up to the plate and earned our 12U Player of the Week honors with a standout weekend that helped power one of the division’s strongest starts.

  • Team: AF Bolts Blue
  • Division: 12U
  • Recognition: Player of the Week Winner
  • Why he stood out: Ben helped lead the charge as AF Bolts Blue rolled to a 13-0 shutout and a 10-1 win, setting the tone with the kind of all-around play that wins ballgames. 2 for 2 at the plate with a 2B/HR along with 4 RBI’s plus throwing 3.1 innings on the mound.

That’s how you make noise early in the season! Big-time congratulations to Ben and the entire AF Bolts Blue squad for coming out firing.

TOP GAMES PLAYED: SCOREBOARD SHAKERS

A couple of matchups absolutely jumped off the scoreboard and set the tone for opening weekend.

  • 10U Bandits Baseball Club — 24-0 shutout: Total domination from first pitch to final out. The Bandits were locked in at the plate and airtight in the field.
  • 11U Ocean State Outlaws — 21-1 explosion: The Outlaws brought the bats in a big way and showed just how dangerous their lineup can be when they get rolling.

These were the kinds of results that had everybody around the complex talking. Early-season statement games? You bet.

11U DIVISION: OFFENSIVE EXPLOSIONS

If you like high-scoring games, the 11U division was the place to be. We saw some historic numbers put up on the manager’s scoreboards.

  • Ocean State Outlaws: The Outlaws put on a clinic, securing a massive 21-1 win. Their lineup saw contributions from top to bottom, proving that they have one of the deepest rosters in the league this year.
  • CT Crush: Led by Rocco Spera’s heroics, the Crush showed they can score in bunches and shut teams down when it counts.
  • Upper Deck Stone Crabs: The Stone Crabs also looked sharp, flashing both speed on the basepaths and power in the heart of the order.

10U & 9U: THE NEXT GENERATION IS HERE

The younger divisions proved that the future of Northeast baseball is in very capable hands.

10U HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Bandits Baseball Club: The headline of the weekend might just be the Bandits’ 24-0 shutout. It’s rare to see that level of offensive production paired with a perfect defensive performance. They were firing on all cylinders.
  • CT Cannons & CT Shell Shockers Red: Both squads showed great fundamentals and a competitive spirit that made their games a joy to watch.

9U SWEEPS:
It was a weekend of sweeps in the 9U division, with three teams asserting their dominance early:

  • CT Shell Shockers
  • Coastal Elite
  • Bandits Baseball Club (RI)

Sweeping a weekend series at any age is difficult, but doing it at 9U shows a level of focus and coaching that is truly impressive. We can’t wait to see how these standings evolve as we head toward our summer tournament schedule.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: THE FIRECRACKER SPIRIT

While the scores and stats are what people talk about on the ride home, the real victory this weekend was the community. We want to extend a massive “Thank You” to the coaches who spent their winter preparing these players, the parents who traveled across state lines, and the facilities that worked tirelessly to ensure the fields were game-ready despite the unpredictable March weather.

At Firecracker Sports, we pride ourselves on providing a “hassle-free” experience for teams and families. Seeing the smiles (and the dirt-covered jerseys) reminds us why we do what we do. We are committed to making the 2026 season our most organized and energetic yet.

ROSTERS WIN GAMES OFF THE FIELD, TOO

Before we dive into more Firecracker Sports news, here’s an important reminder for every coach and team manager in the league: keep your roster updated.

Accurate rosters are a must-have for a smooth season because they directly impact:

  • Scoring accuracy — player stats, lineups, and game records are only as good as the roster entered.
  • Player highlights — recognitions like Player of the Game (POTG) and weekly spotlight features depend on having the right players attached to the right teams.
  • College recruiting exposure — for older players especially, correct roster information helps make sure the right athletes get seen, identified, and promoted.

This is a no-nonsense league essential. If your roster is outdated, missing players, or listing incorrect jersey numbers, it can affect everything from the scoreboard to postgame recognition.

To keep things hassle-free, teams should update rosters through the Firecracker Sports app or in the manager portal on our website. A few quick minutes now can make a big difference all season long.
