2022 Sluggers Fury: Team Scout Day – 1.23.22

We had a great turnout of players and coaches at the Sluggers Fury Team Scout Day this past weekend in Medfield, MA home of Sluggers Academy.  John Malzone, Washington Nationals Northeast Area Scout was in attendance, along with 7 other college coaches. He gave a scouting perspective and college recruiting discussion at the end of the event. We saw a very talented group of 35+ players ranging in graduation classes from 2022 to 2025.

We are going to highlight some of the top players that participated but also some up and comers who you should keep an eye out for in the coming months. Top performers are listed at the bottom of this email, for the major testing categories, including the schools and professional organizations that were present for this event. Overall a good group of players that are mostly high academics which opens up even more possibilities to play baseball in college.  While many players showed good ability here were some of the top players who showed well at the scout day.

1. Gabe Albertson 1B 2023. Wellesley HS,  6’2” 175lbs. Bats L Throws R

Gabe shows a premium athletic frame.  Gabe has a square upright stance and showed a good approach with rhythm, timing, and balance.  He has very good leverage and is direct to the ball with good extension in his swing.  He uses the whole field and has above avg raw power esp to the pull side.  He profiles as a Left Handed power bat.  Gabe’s peak exit velo was 85MPH but has been 94 MPH at past events.  He is an avg defender at 1B.  He showed good footwork around the bag.  He has soft hands and receives the ball well.  Huge upside for this big LHH 1B.

2. Tyler Holm SS, C, RHP 2023. St. Johnsbury Academy, 5’10”155lbs Bats L Throw R

Tyler has a medium athletic frame.  Tyler is an exciting, talented 2 way player.  On the mound as a RHP he showed a quick arm with a top velocity of 82 MPH.  He showed a plus power CB at 74 MPH.  He threw strikes and had good movement on the fastball.  As a hitter he showed plus batspeed with an exit velo of 93.8 MPH.  He uses the whole field with a mostly line drive swing.  He showed good actions at SS and the arm showed well from SS.  Although not a full time catcher he had a 2.03 pop time.  He will be a sub 2.00 pop with some work behind the plate.  The arm strength is plus from anywhere on the field.

3. Jack Reynolds LHP 2023. Medway HS, 5’9” 153lbs Bats L Throws L

Jack has a medium athletic frame.  On the mound he showed a good delivery which he has the ability to repeat.  He threw strikes with plus life on the FB.  His top velo was 71 MPH and showed a good CB at 65 MPH.  I would expect big velo gains as he continues to get stronger.  As a hitter he showed a good swing with a top exit velo of 79.1.

4. Carter Wright RHP, OF 2024. Thayer Academy. 6’1” 180lbs Bats R Throws R

Carter has a well proportioned athletic frame.  He showed a good delivery and threw strikes with all of his pitches. His Fastball topped 78.6 MPH.  He has the makings of a plus CB that was 66.7 MPH.  I would expect more velocity as he gets stronger.  He showed a good line drive swing.  His top exit velo was 87.1 MPH.  He showed good footwork and range in the outfield.  Big upside for this 2024 as hitter and pitcher.

5. Aiden Newhall LHP, 2023. Walpole HS. 5’7” 130lbs  Bats L Throws L

Aiden has a wiry athletic frame.  He showed a good delivery and repeated on all of his pitches.  His fastball topped 77.4MPH and showed good natural LH life.  His CB was sharp and showed good depth.  CB velo was 65 MPH.  Showed feel for a good CH that played well off the FB at 70.2 MPH.  Definitely more velocity as he continues to get stronger.  Overall a very nice total package LHP.
