2021 Team Testing Day: 16U RI Rockets
March 28, 2021
Tim Lombardi | Firecracker Sports Director of Player Development
Location: Johnston Indoor Recreational Center
Graduation Years: 2025
Coach: Derek Calabro – cal3274@gmail.com
We want to thank Coach Derek Calabro for having us come out to Johnston for a testing day on Rapsodo pitching and hitting devices located at the Johnston Indoor Recreational Center. On the day, there were 23 total athletes between 14u and 16u that resulted in 7 pitchers. The talented group of athletes ranged between graduation years of 2023- 2025. We tested the athletes on a large half of a gymnasium that had drop down cages. You can find the results of the day on our website here.
Any college coaches looking for video on each player contact our Director of Player Development, Tim Lombardi at tlombardi@firecrackersports.com.

Top Pitching Leaders on the Day:
Alexcya Barber – 2024 – P | OF
Barber pitched really well for RI Rockets, topping out with a fastball at 53 mph while averaging 52 mph. She also stayed in the zone while showing a wide array of pitches including a curveball at 51 mph, changeup at 44 mph and a rise ball at 44 mph.
Milana produced a nasty curveball at 50 mph while keeping an average fastball of 49 mph. With her repertoire, Melvin located on every corner of the zone with her curveball (50 mph) changeup (40 mph) and riser (50 mph). Another strong pitch for Milana was her screwball which was also clocked at 51 mph.
Victoria Butler produced a 50 mph peak fastball velocity while averaging 49 mph, proving her mechanics are repeatable. Her other pitches also included a curveball at 48 mph, changeup at 36 mph and a screwball at 50 mph.
Top Hitting Leaders on the Day:
Elaina Furtado-Rahill – 2023 – C | SS | 3B | OF
Elaina Furtado led the day with a 72 mph exit velocity with the bat while maintaining a compact, reproducible swing. Look for her to hit the distance with a nice launch angle average of 10.7 degree.
Amanda Preston – 2024 – C | 1B | 3B | OF
Amanda Preston showed a very nice swing that allowed her to produce a peak velocity of 66 mph. She is very compact while short to the ball allowing her to catch up to any pitch going into this summer. She also produced a launch angle of 6.8 degrees, proving she will be a line drive machine this summer.
Victoria Butler also produced a nice exit velocity of 65 mph today while staying short to the ball. Butler led the day in average distance at 125 ft while consistently keeping the ball at 18 degrees for her launch angle.
Melvin has a very powerful swing that will only get better with a little consistency. On the day, she drove the ball at 65 mph while keeping an average distance of 98 ft.
Rebecka Baggesen – 2023 – RF | CF | LF
Rebecka produced an exit velocity of 63 mph with a much higher ceiling if she focuses on tuning her mechanics. Aside from this, she is very short to the ball and even stayed consistent.
