Columbus Day Bash – College Showcase Camp

Dodd Stadium

Mike Alberts | Director of Player Development

We had a perfect night for baseball at Dodd Stadium, former location of the Double – A New York Yankees and current home to the Norwich Sea Unicorns in the Futures League.  The event was attended by 20+ college and professional coaches from D1, D2, D3, JUCO and MLB as well.  We saw a very talented group of 50+ players ranging in graduation classes from 2022 to 2025 but also a first for 2021, we had 15 players from Canada participating as they flew in for the first time since being showcased in the United States in 2019!

We are going to highlight some of the top players that participated but also some up and comers who you should keep an eye out for in the coming months. Top performers are listed at the bottom of this email, for the major testing categories.

Top PitcherLuca Alagheband  LHP 6’3” 180lbs  Crescent HS, Toronto, Canada 2024

Luca has a large well proportioned athletic frame.  High ¾ arm slot with a free and easy delivery.  His fastball was 81-83mph, 2380 spin rate.  Threw strikes with his fastball with good movement.  Very good Curveball 70-72 MPH with 12 to 6 break.  Change up was 72-73 that plays well off the fastball.  Luca turned 16 on September 30th so plenty of time to continue to grow and develop.

Top Position Player:  Thai-ler Sestokas 2B/OF/RHP  5’11” 170lbs  Danbury, HS 2022

Thai-ler has an athletic frame with good muscle tone.  Showed a very good approach at the plate.  Quick hands with good extension through the ball.  Used the whole field.  Line drive swing with future power production.  Top exit velo 91 mph.  Ran the fastest 60 yard dash of the event 7.07.  Explosive first step.  Showed a plus accurate arm from the OF 88MPH.  Had the top velocity on the mound 83.3 MPH.  Has the ability to be a 2 way player in college.

Up and Coming Prospect: Alexander Zimmerman C/3B/RHP 6’3 200lbs Haddam, CT 2024

Alexander has an athletic body that will continue to get stronger and develop. While he did not pitch at this showcase camp, he did throw during the tournament and performed very well. Has a big presence on the mound and commands his fastball. Ability to throw inside, which is missing these days and has more in the tank with development of his lower half. Also plays catcher and has “pop” in his bat with a 95.7 exit velo peak on this Friday evening. He will have the opportunity to play at the next level, if he continues to develop and commit to his training.
